"Wow – I just finished reading Dominant and I found myself immersed into a world that I knew almost nothing about. A world far more complex and filled with human frailty, lust and hunger than I had ever imagined. Let me backtrack a second, when I first picked up Dominant I was prepared not to like it – the subject matter didn’t necessarily appeal to me and I just assumed that the writing would be trite like so many other salacious memoires. Boy, was I wrong on both accounts! The way this piece is written drags the reader into a world that few have experienced and that fewer understand at the level to which Dominant brings them.
Dominant is the opposite of much of the contemporary S&M-based literature that has become popular in the last few years. Instead of taking the point of view of the client, Dominant gives voice to the dominatrix, the Mistress of the Dungeon becomes the master of the world of Domination for Profit and her first-person narrative is packed with the details that only someone who has spent a career in this life can tell. And what a tale it is. If even half of the stories told in Dominant are true, then the author has led a remarkable life – filled with the highs and lowest points of human interactions. It’s clear from the book that physical whips and chains are often not the greatest agonies that the Mistress’ slaves face. It’s their lives outside of the dungeon that sometimes causes the most pain.
Believe it or not, the real story of Dominant is not about sex but about power. The power that this dominant female has over the men she encounters is considerable. Men, who in the rest of their lives are outwardly powerful and pillars of success willing submit. Is Dominant an allegory for the innate power that all women possess in their own way? During the course of her tale Mistress X makes the transition from innocent small town girl to full-blown dominatrix, the reader can see the maturing of her character, craft and power over her slaves. Her power is not always manifested by shackles and whips but often in subtler ways."

"Dominant is a good, fast moving read that will hold the reader’s fascination as they experience the life of a Mistress. Mistress X brings us into her life and lets us look around – at least at those secret places she deems us worthy of entering. I’m sure that there are many secrets that she’s left for another time. With all of this having been said, make no mistake Dominant is also about sex! There’s lots of it in this book, Dominant is definitely erotica but not for the feint of heart."
